Alicante Airport (Spanish: Aeropuerto de Alicante, Valencian: Aeroport d'Alacant), (IATA: ALC, ICAO: LEAL), originally named El Altet, is the sixth busiest airport in Spain, and the main airport for the Province of Alicante and the Region of Murcia.

The airport is situated 9 km (5.6 mi) southwest of Alicante and 10 km (6.2 mi) east of Elche in the municipality of Elche on Mediterranean coast. Up to eighty percent of all passenger flights are international. The largest numbers of passengers arrive from the United Kingdom, Germany, and the Netherlands. Popular domestic destinations are Madrid, Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona. Both, international and domestic passenger traffic has been increasing significantly in the last decade.

Terminals

There are two terminals at the airport, located one adjacent to the other. The brand new terminal is now completed.

Ground Transport

Alicante airport is accessible by buses, taxis, and private cars on automobile road N-338. In near future, it can be reached by trains and trams. A space in the basement of the new terminal is reserved for construction of both stations.

TIP

If you are hiring a car from Alicante airport but not arriving by air, and being taken to the airport by a friend for example, then you can drive directly into the car rental area ( follow rental car signs) close to the terminal building, drive through the automated barrier and go to the level where your car hire supplier is located. For example if you are collecting from Europcar, Sixt or Centauro then drive to the 3rd Floor and report to their office located at this level.

You will not need to enter the actual departures or arrivals area. Ask your car supplier for a ticket so your friend can exit the building without charge !
