Jun 8, 2015 New Driving Licence rules for UK drivers renting abroad
From today, UK drivers (not northern Ireland) may be asked by car hire suppliers to produce a CODE or a printed Licence Summary issued online by DVLA, as a result of the paper counterpart of the driving licence no longer being issued.
Our simple recommendation is to take with you your paper counterpart if you have it !
The Licence Summary
is required for car hire in the UK, Angola, Bahrain, Balearics, Botswana, Canaries, Croatia, Namibia, Oman, Portugal, South Africa, Sweden and Tunisia.
The Licence Summary/Unique Code is NOT
required for the US, Canada, Mexico, Latin America, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, rest of Africa, rest of Middle East, and rest of Europe.BBC news articleDVLA Step by Step GuideDVLA GuideDVLA website DVLA Website
